What is Acupuncutre?
Acupuncture - a time-honoured medicine
The origins of acupuncture in China can be traced back at least 2000 years, making it one of the oldest and long-standing health care systems in the world. Today, acupuncture is an effective, natural and increasingly popular form of health care that is being used by people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds.
How does Acupuncture work?
Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific sites (acupuncture points) along the body's meridians to clear energy blockages and encourage the normal flow of qi through the individual. The practitioner may also stimulate the acupuncture points using other methods, including moxibustion, cupping, laser therapy, electro-stimulation and massage, in order to re-establish the flow of qi.
What can Acupuncture treat?
Although Acupuncture is used to treat the symptoms presented in a patient, each persons physical makeup differs, so the treatment will be tailored to suit the individual.
Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions as well as helping to boost the bodies natural energy flows. Common treatments include,
• Fertility – including IVF assisted support
• Pain – lower back pain, knee pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, stiff neck, arthritis
• Stress, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addiction
• Sports injuries – recovery, improved functioning of injuries, pain management
• Pregnancy discomforts and labour induction
• Headaches, sinus pain and migrane
• Digestive disorders – IBS, indigestion, bloating, heartburn, nausea, constipation
• Menstrual and menopausal disorders – PMT, painful periods, PCOS, hot flushes
Fertility and Pregnancy
Acupuncture helps by regulating your body’s system. This can increase the blood flow to the reproductive organs and stabilise hormone levels. This in turn can increase ovarian function in women as well as sperm production in men. Used as a complementary therapy for women undergoing other fertility treatments, acupuncture has been scientifically and medically proven to be beneficial.
Pre and Postnatal Pregnancy Support
Acupuncture can help women throughout pregnancy to support and relax both mother and baby, as well as to help reduce symptoms such as fatigue, back pain, nausea and delayed labor. For women interested in late-term pregnancy support, it is ideal to begin treatment a few weeks before the 40th week of term, especially if this will be your first time receiving acupuncture.
Medical standard ultra fine single use needles are used to assist the flow of qi in the targeted area.
